IN THE CLASSROOM
In the Robotics section of the STEAM Camp, campers engage the engineering design process by building automated machines to solve practical problems. They have the option of using LEGO Mindstorms or more robust TETRIX Robotics platforms to achieve their design goals, and program the robots themselves. At Staten Island Tech, we use TETRIX as the robotics platform that all of our Freshmen students are exposed to upon entering the school. This also gives students an entry to coding and operating machines.
Industry Standard
All students gain experience in building, working with programming languages used by actual developers, and technical documentation as they progress through tiered and cumulative robotics tasks and competitions. Standard block, drag-and-drop programming is used for LEGO, while more advanced students can use Arduino and related C++ coding languages to communicate with their respective robots and complete tasks using our TETRIX robotics kits. This level of programming and coding is on par with what students would experience in an introduction to robotics class at the high school or college level.
quotes from campers and counselors
"It's really fun learning a lot of coding, and we get to try new things! it's a great opportunity that can help us in the future. I love the programming the best because you can experiment and play around with the code" - Camper

"It's really fulfilling that I'm able to help kids learn new things about robotics and code that will hopefully help them in their future, whether at Tech or not" - Nicholas Lofaso, Counselor
|
"This class is the best possible introduction to Staten Island Tech as a whole" - Everton Henriques, Lead Teacher
